Medically Fragile Students
The Missouri Legislature in the budget process for the 2011-2012 school year appropriated funds to offer free MoVIP classes to students who have been designated as medically fragile and cannot attend school due to this condition.
The Medically Fragile application is available for 2011-2012.
To be considered, a fillable PDF application must be completed and faxed to the MoVIP office at 573-522-1134.
Basic information about this group of students:
- The medically fragile seats in MoVIP are not for temporary medical conditions (six weeks or less)
- Students who apply and are accepted into the medically fragile program are expected to participate for an entire semester.
- If sufficient funds are not available to meet demand, priority will be given to medically fragile students who absolutely cannot attend school for medical reasons.
- Interested students who do not qualify as medically fragile and not chosen, may attend MoVIP by paying tuition.
- In 2009 Missouri Revised Statue 162.1250 became law. This law allows school districts to collect state aid for any student taking a virtual class without having to keep track of attendance hours. For virtual education classes, students can take the classes at any location and the district can still collect state aid with 94% attendance as assigned by the law. Students may consult with their local school district.
For new students enrolled as medically fragile we reccommend up to four classes per semester under this program.
